Mark Cameron White is a founding partner of White & Lee LLP, a premier boutique corporate law firm based in Menlo Park, CA. Mark represents a wide variety of private and public companies and venture capital funds on all matters relating to the formation, financing, growth and liquidity of technology-based enterprises. He has worked with recognized companies and venture funds such as HotMail, Classmates Online, and New Enterprise Associates. Prior to White & Lee, Mark was an attorney at Cooley Godward and Fenwick & West. Mark is also a Co-Founder and Managing Director of Layered Intelligence, a diversified global merchant bank, project management and software development services company. Mark graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Rutgers University and received an MBA from Harvard Graduate School of Business and a JD from University of California at Berkeley.

Samir Bodas
CEO, Disha Technologies, Inc.
Samir Bodas is the CEO of Disha Technologies, Inc. He has over 15 years of development, business, strategy, sales, and marketing experience. He was recently the Vice President, Strategic Alliances at Jamcracker where he drove channel sales and marketing strategy and helped close and manage key accounts like Accenture, Telus, Unisys, and GRIC. Prior to that he spent several years at Microsoft Corp., most recently as the Director of SME Customer marketing where he owned worldwide strategy and execution for demand generation, licensing, anti-piracy, and on-line efforts targeting SME customers. Prior to Microsoft he was at McKinsey and Co.

Samir received his MBA from the Wharton School of Business, where he was a Palmer Scholar, and BA with Distinction in Computer Science from the University of Texas at Austin.

David Cannington
Chief Executive Director, ANZA Technology Network

David Cannington has a 20 year background in international sales, marketing and advertising and has held senior account management and marketing positions in the USA, UK and Australia.

He moved to the Bay Area in 1990 and soon after founded a consulting business providing market entry services to Australian and Canadian clients. In that capacity he opened the US market for Scanagraphix, a leading Australian digital imaging company and subsequently partnered with Canadian companies in the imaging and printing industries to build their US client base.

David was the founding Chief Executive of ANZA Technology Network has been instrumental in building ANZA Technology Network into a successful regional technology networking organization that connects the Australian, New Zealand and US technology sectors. David has been actively involved in the Australian business community in the Bay Area. He is past President of the Australian/American Chamber of Commerce. He holds a Bachelor of Business from Monash University in Melbourne.

John F. Pierce
Stoel Rives LLP

John Pierce’s primary areas of practice are domestic and international business transactions relating to project finance, energy (including renewables such as wind and geothermal) and related infrastructure such as pipelines and other transportation systems, telecommunications (wireless and satellite), mergers and acquisitions, corporate matters and privatizations. John usually represents project sponsors but has also represented lending institutions. John has extensive experience throughout Asia and the Middle East.

John was a Senior associate with Vinson & Elkins, Singapore (1999-2002); Managing Partner, LWA Consultants Limited, Yangon, Myanmar (1995-1999); associate, Tilleke & Gibbons R.O.P., Bangkok, Thailand (1995); and an associate in the Law Office of Dr. Mujahid Al-Sawwaf, Saudi Arabia (1993-1995).

John earned his J.D. with high honors from the University of Washington School of Law (1993) and was Co-founder and Editor-in-Chief of the Pacific Rim Law &Policy Journal. TOM ALBERG
Managing Director, Madrona Venture Group

Tom Alberg served as President of LIN Broadcasting Corporation and Executive Vice President of McCaw Cellular Communications, Inc. prior to co-founding Madrona Investment Group in 1995. Tom currently serves as a director for Madrona portfolio companies, including Impinj and Wireless Services. In addition, he serves on the boards of two public technology companies (Advanced Digital Information Corporation and Amazon.com).

Previously, Tom was Chairman of the Executive Committee and Partner in the Northwest’s largest law firm, Perkins Coie, and was previously an attorney with Cravath, Swaine & Moore in New York. Tom is Chairman of the Washington State Technology Alliance, past Chairman of Discovery Institute, past Chairman of the Pacific Science Center and past President of Intiman Theater in Seattle. He was co-chairman of the capital campaign for the Computer Science Department of the University of Washington. A graduate, cum laude, of Harvard College, Tom received his law degree from Columbia Law School where he was an editor of the Law Review.

Matt Garlick
Research Manager, VentureOne
Matt Garlick is a Senior Analyst and Research Manager at Dow Jones VentureOne, a venture capital research firm based in San Francisco. He leads VentureOne’s primary venture capital research operation and is responsible for the core of research that tracks the business progress and financing plans of venture-backed companies in the U.S. Matt also produces custom analytical reports and aggregate statistics on the US, European, and Israeli venture capital industries, and assists with media relations. Prior to VentureOne, he received a M.A. in International Relations from Boston University, and a B.A. from Creighton University.

J. Roy Martinez
Principal, American River Ventures
J. Roy Martinez has over 15 years of experience in venture capital and engineering and operations management. Before joining American River Ventures (ARV) in 2003, Roy was the founder of North Bay Venture Strategies (NBVS), a consulting practice that worked with early-stage technology companies, helping them with strategy development, tactical execution, and fundraising.

Before forming NBVS, Roy was a Senior Strategic Investment Manager with Intel Capital (the venture arm of Intel Corporation). Roy holds the following degrees:

Debi Coleman
Managing Partner, SmartForest Ventures

Debi Coleman, Managing Partner of SmartForest Ventures, is one of the most recognized female executives in technology management. Debi stepped down as Chairman of the Board of Merix Corp. (NASDAQ: MERX) in September 2001, having served as Chair since October 1999, and serving as both CEO/Chair since its spin-out from Tektronix, Inc. in March 1994 (IPO: May, 1994). Prior to that she was Vice President Materials/Operations for Tektronix. She is perhaps best known for her career achievements with Apple Computer, Inc. where she held the positions of Vice President of Operations, Chief Financial Officer, and Vice President Information Systems and Technology.

Debi serves as an advisor to three venture funds: PacRim Partners (CA); Utah Ventures; and Alexander Hutton Ventures (Seattle). She has been an active angel investor since 1995 and is a founding member of the Portland Angel Network. Debi graduated from Brown University with a BA in English Literature in 1974 and received her MBA from Stanford University in 1978. She also received an honorary Ph.D in Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in 1987. Coleman was named a Henry Crown Fellow of the Aspen Institute in 1997.

Debi devotes time and energy to several organizations including the Committee of 200 and International Women’s Forum. She currently serves on the boards of Applied Materials Inc.; Synopsys, Inc.; Finatus; and Teseda Corp.

Keith R. Larson
Director, Strategic Investments, Intel Capital

Keith Larson manages Intel’s minority equity investments in the Manufacturing and Emerging Technologies Sector. This includes investments in semiconductor equipment and materials, EDA tools, disruptive memories, biotech, and nanotech areas. Previously at Intel Capital he managed investments and identified strategic acquisition opportunities of networking, broadband, and storage building block-related companies. In 1996, Intel Corporation recruited Keith to its venture investing and acquisition group, now known as Intel Capital. In addition to several acquisitions, he and his team have invested in many successful companies including Berkeley Networks (acquired by Fore Systems), Globespan (GSPN), Recourse Technologies, Inc. (acquired by Symantec), Research in Motion (RIMM), Rocketchips (acquired by Xilinx), Telera (acquired by Alcatel), and XLNT Designs (acquired by Intel). Prior to joining Intel, Keith cofounded a $51 million venture capital fund (InterVen II, L.P.) where he was a general partner for over 9 years. Keith’s investments while at InterVen II included Protocol Systems, Inc. (PCOL), Northwest Pipe and Casing (NWPX), and Sports Incorporated (acquired by adidas America). He and Intel Capital were the focus of a Harvard Business School Case Study published in 2000 examining how Intel obtains strategic value from its investments. He is on the Board of Regents of the University of Portland, and was appointed by the Governor to the Oregon Council for Knowledge and Economic Development to advise the Legislature and Governor. He has been an Adjunct Professor at the Oregon Graduate Institute and Portland State University.

Ted Bernhard

Ted Bernhard is a member of the Corporate and Technology Ventures Group. His practice focuses on securities and general corporate law, with particular emphasis on providing counsel to entrepreneurs, investors, technology transfer organizations, and others involved with creating, operating, and financing emerging businesses in the Pacific Northwest.

Ted was the Co-Founder and Managing Partner of Cascadia Pacific Management (1997-2004), one of the Pacific Northwest’s first early stage venture capitalists. He managed four separate institutionally-backed venture funds in Oregon, Washington, and Western Canada which financed over one hundred of the region’s fastest growing technology companies, including Radisys, FEI Company, Creative Multimedia, Antivirals, Full Sail Ales, Sapient Health Network/WebMD, PrintPaks, Templex Technologies, Serveron Corporation and Westport Innovations. Prior to joining Cascadia, Ted was a strategic consultant in the Information Technologies Group of Booz Allen Hamilton in New York City (1991-1992).

Ted’s professional activities include Oregon Entrepreneurs Forum, Venture Oregon Planning Committee 2004; Oregon State Bar Emerging Business/Venture Law Committee (1999-2001); member, American Electronics Association; member, Software Association of Oregon; Multnomah Bar Association. Ted received his J.D. from Willamette University College of Law and his B.A., magna cum laude, in economics from Princeton University.

Christopher P. Fenner
Managing Director, VenCore Solutions
Chris Fenner has more than 18 years of banking and financial services experience, 13 with BankofAmerica and 3 with Imperial Bank. Chris is currently the Managing Director for the Pacific Northwest Region of VenCore Solutions, a venture financing firm. At VenCore, Chris works with early-stage, start-up and pre-cash flow companies to add leverage and finance their equipment, enabling them to preserve their cash equity and avoid unnecessary dilution. Prior to VenCore, Chris was with Imperial Bank, where he also worked with early stage technology companies, offering a variety of financial services including loans, lines of credit, leases, and cash management. With Imperial Bank, he launched a new Oregon office and territory for the Life Sciences and Technology Division, where the focus was working closely with the venture capital investors and technology companies in both Washington and Oregon.

Chris graduated from the University of Washington with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in finance and accounting. He is also a graduate of the Pacific Coast Banking School and has served on the boards of technology companies.

Janis Machala
Managing Partner, Paladin Partners
Janis Machala is the Managing Partner of Paladin Partners, the leading consulting firm working with emerging growth companies in the Pacific Northwest. Paladin has worked with over 75 companies since the firm’s inception and has been involved in several hundred million dollars in venture capital and angel investing. Just a few of the companies where Paladin Partners has played a critical strategic role include Performant (sold to Mercury Interactive), Capital Stream, VoteHere.net, Chili!Soft (sold to Cobalt Networks), Livebid.com (sold to Amazon), Captura Software (sold to Concur), LizardTech, and Verdiem.

Before founding Paladin Partners in 1995, Janis Machala served as President and Chief Executive Officer for Pinnacle Publishing, Inc. Under her leadership, Pinnacle Publishing became a leading provider of component software and technical newsletters for application developers, achieving profitability for seven straight quarters after seven years of operating losses.

Prior to Pinnacle, Janis held a number of senior management positions in marketing and business development with a number of leading computer systems vendors, such as Microsoft Corporation, Sun Microsystems, and Wang Laboratories. Janis helped form Seraph Capital Forum, a woman’s angel investing group, and FWE Seattle, which supports women entrepreneurs. She also served on the board of the Washington Software Alliance from 1994 to 1998 and is currently on the board of the Northwest Entrepreneur Network, a nonprofit firm devoted to the advancement of entrepreneurship in the Pacific Northwest. Most recently Janis served for 3 years as the organization’s president. She was one of the 1995 Pacific Northwest finalists for Inc. Magazine’s and Ernst and Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year award. Janis is active in the entrepreneurship programs at Seattle University and the University of Washington.

Janis received an M.B.A. in Marketing from the University of Iowa and a B.A. in English and Psychology from Augustana College in Illinois (in 3 years).

William Caffee
Partner, White & Lee LLP
Bill Caffee has extensive experience in corporate finance and securities law matters, including the representation of technology and emerging growth companies, securities professionals and investors. His practice encompasses the formation, financing, corporate governance, intellectual property counseling and transactional fields. He has handled complex mergers and acquisitions, licensing and distribution arrangements, venture capital financings and strategic partnerships for a wide variety of public and private company clients in a wide range of industries.

Bill was Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Securities Regulation Section of the Oregon State Bar in 1997 and will teach Securities Regulation at Willamette University School of Law in 2005. Previously he taught Securities Regulation and Mergers and Acquisitions at the University of Oregon School of Law, and Securities Regulation at Northwestern School of Law at Lewis and Clark College as an Adjunct Professor. Prior to joining White & Lee in 2000, Bill was the lead partner in the securities law practice of the Portland firm of Dunn Carney Allen Higgins & Tongue LLP.

Bill attended Georgetown University, School of Foreign Service, and received a B.A. in Philosophy with Highest Honors from the University of Washington and his law degree from the University of Oregon, School of Law.

Mark Young
Managing Director (Investment Banking), Adams Harkness
Mark Young serves as a Managing Director in Adams Harkness’ Investment Banking Group. He is one of the group heads for Adams Harkness’ Technology practice, and primarily focuses on relationships with companies in the firm’s Technology Manufacturing Solutions franchise. In addition to managing the efforts of this group, Mark’s responsibilities include identifying, negotiating, structuring, and executing investment banking transactions for emerging growth clients.

Mark was one of the early members of the Adams Harkness Investment Banking Group, helping to execute the firm’s first lead-managed equity financings. During his tenure, Mark has worked on a wide variety of equity financing and mergers and acquisitions transactions, participating in more than 80 assignments with an aggregate deal value exceeding $3 billion.

In 1988, Mark joined Adams Harkness as a Financial Analyst with the firm’s Corporate Finance Department. He has worked as an Investment Banking Associate and Vice President, executing transactions across Adams Harkness’ Consumer, Healthcare, and Technology sectors. Mark graduated from the University of Virginia with a B.A. in Rhetoric and Communications Studies.

Jeffrey S. Tarbell
Principal, Willamette Management Associates

Jeff Tarbell is a principal and national director of financial advisory services for Willamette Management Associates. In his career as an investment banker and valuation analyst, Jeff has performed the following types of assignments: merger and acquisition transactions, private equity placements, public stock offerings, financial restructurings, transactional opinions such as fairness opinions and solvency opinions, ESOP-related valuations, dissenting shareholder valuations, marital dissolution valuations, corporate dissolution valuations, gift and estate tax valuations, transfer pricing valuations, purchase price allocations valuations, controversy resolution and litigation support services, intangible asset valuations, third-party valuation review, and expert witness testimony.

Prior to joining Willamette Management Associates, Jeff was a vice president of Pacific Crest Securities, a nationally recognized investment banking firm. Prior to that, he was a vice president of Houlihan Lokey Howard & Zukin, a nationally recognized investment banking firm. His responsibilities included providing corporate valuations, fairness opinions, solvency opinions, and other advisory services. He was an officer of the firm and a member of the firm’s Technical Standards Committee. Prior to that, Jeff was a principal of Willamette Management Associates.

Jeff earned a Master of Business Administration from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business, with a specialization in finance and accounting, and a Bachelor of Science, Business Administration, from the University of Oregon, with a specialization in finance and marketing.

Jeff is an accredited senior appraiser (ASA), certified in business valuation, of the American Society of Appraisers. He is also a chartered financial analyst (CFA) of the CFA Institute (formerly the AIMR). He is a member of the Portland Society of Financial Analysts, the Oregon Entrepreneurs’ Forum (OEF), the American Electronics Association (AeA), and the Association for Corporate Growth. He is a General Securities Registered Representative (NASD Series 7) and Uniform Securities Agent (NASD Series 63). He is an associate of the American Bar Association and an associate member of the Oregon State Bar.

Wenliang Chen
Former CEO, Cascade Semiconductor
Dr. Wenliang (Wen) Chen was Founder and President of Cascade Semiconductor Corporation. Cascade was founded in May 2001 focusing on Pseudo-SRAM for mobile phone market. Cascade reached quarterly revenue of about $4m in third quarter of 2003 before being acquired by Cypress Semiconductor.

Prior to founding Cascade Semiconductor, Dr. Chen spent 9 years at Intel Corporation in a number of technical and managerial leadership positions, from technology, to circuit design, to computer architecture. Dr. Chen managed Advanced SRAM Development at Intel from 1998 to 2001. Prior to that, Dr. Chen was a Lead Designer at Intel’s IA-64 Itanium microprocessor design group. Dr. Chen has more than 20 publications and holds a number of patents in the areas of computer architecture, circuit design, and CMOS device technology.

Dr. Chen received his B.S. in Physics in 1988 from Fudan University, Shanghai, China, and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Yale University, New Haven, CT in 1992.

Todd Bauman
Stoel Rives LLP
Todd Bauman practices in the Business Department with emphasis primarily in corporate securities and general corporate law. He is the Chair of the firm’s Technology Ventures Group and has broad experience representing emerging growth and technology companies in private and public financings, SEC reporting and compliance, and acquisitions and divestitures. He also has extensive experience representing venture capital and private equity firms regarding their organization and investments. Todd was formerly the Chair of the Emerging Business Committee of the Oregon Chapter of the American Electronics Association, Chair of the Legal Issues SIG of the Software Association of Oregon and the Treasurer of the Business Law section of the Oregon State Bar. He was recently named one of the leading lawyers in Oregon in Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers and Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business in the Corporate/Mergers and Acquisitions category for 2004. He was associated with Brobeck, Phleger & Harrison, San Francisco, California from 1984-87. Sydney Joyner has over 15 years experience in leadership and organizational development consulting with start-ups, emerging, and mature companies. Sydney works with both the boards and the executive leadership of organizations on strategic planning and development strategies to support healthy organizational functioning, optimal performance, and business objectives. She acts as a catalyst for organizational development, and is noted for her high energy, insight, and facilitation abilities.

Previously she held senior executive positions in marketing, advertising and public relations for major international communications agencies located in the San Francisco Bay Area. Sydney holds undergraduate degrees in education and speech and hearing pathology, with post-graduate work in business management and broadcast communications. She holds an MBA degree from Marylhurst University, with a concentration in organizational development.

Sydney has taught as an adjunct professor in the MBA program at Marylhurst University and Portland State University. She is a frequent lecturer and presenter on leadership, organizational change, and the development of the “intellectual assets” within companies. She serves on the board of the College of Arts and Crafts, on the board for Oregon Entrepreneurs Forum (OEF), is Chair of the Women’s Investment Network (WIN), and is a sponsor of the SAO Human Capital Forum series. Sydney is a past Board Examiner for the Oregon Quality Award and is an accredited member in the Public Relations Society of America.

Kenneth R. Greger

Kenneth R. Greger is CEO and Managing Director for Greger/Peterson Associates, Inc. He specializes in filling senior executive positions for eBusiness, Technology & Entertainment companies nationwide, inclusive of Homeland Security. His first Internet-related search, in the early 1990’s, was for a then small company called America Online. Ken subsequently completed eight additional senior management search assignments for AOL.

The firm works closely with top-tier angels and venture firms throughout the USA, and was selected by Silicon Valley Bank to be a member of its alliance of professional services firms. Tracy Bean
Managing Director, Compensation & Benefits, KPMG
Tracy Bean is the Managing Director of the Compensation and Benefits group in the Pacific Northwest. Tracy has worked extensively with top management and compensation committees to identify and implement strategic executive compensation and benefits programs designed to attract, retain and motivate key employees.

Tracy has assisted in the design, implementation, benchmarking, and administration of incentive programs, retirement programs, equity compensation plans, and payroll processes. She assists companies in evaluating the business problems associated with these programs as well as the tax and financial statement impact.

Tracy is a frequent speaker on compensation and benefits topics to such groups as the National Association of Stock Plan Professionals, the Washington State Bar Association, the Tax Executives Institute, WorldatWork, and the National Center for Employee Ownership.

Tracy earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with an accounting emphasis from Portland State University. She is a Certified Public Accountant and a Certified Employee Benefit Specialist. Tracy is member of WorldatWork (formerly the American Compensation Association), the National Center for Employee Ownership and the National Association of Stock Plan Professionals.

Peter Ackerman
CEO of Innovation Asset Group
Peter Ackerman is Director and CEO of Innovation Asset Group, based in Tualatin, Oregon. IAG developed a software system called Decipher, which facilitates the management and valuation of all forms of intangible and intellectual assets. A lawyer by training, Peter began his career at Intel in 1989, where he handled a variety of intellectual property issues concerning trademarks, patents, copyrights, trade secrets, licensing and sales, product liability, warranties, joint ventures and human resources. He has also served as a criminal prosecutor, and later as a Municipal Judge for the City of Beaverton, Oregon, helping to develop it into one of the most technologically advanced municipal courts in the United States. In his private law practice, Peter conducted intellectual property assessments for technology companies and provided transactional support to clients involved with Microsoft, HP, Siemens, Novell and Intel.

Greg Hull
Thoits, Love, Hershberger & McLean
Over the past 30 years, Greg Hull has specialized in complex civil litigation with emphasis on intellectual property, professional liability, insurance bad faith, and complex tort litigation. He represents both plaintiffs and defendants in litigation involving licenses, trade secrets, civil fraud, fiduciary and professional liability and other significant cases. As a shareholder of Thoits, Love, Hershberger & McLean, Greg brings to their Litigation Group a wealth of courtroom experience garnered in more than 40 jury trials and numerous arbitrations. He is willing to travel for his clients and has been retained by lawyers, individuals, and businesses throughout California. Greg has tried cases in Santa Clara, San Mateo, Shasta, Sonoma, Marin, San Joaquin, Sacramento, Stanislaus, Fresno, Los Angeles, Alameda, and San Francisco Counties and has litigated in many other California and national venues.

Greg graduated with honors from the University of Santa Clara in 1970 and from the University of San Francisco Law School in 1973, where he was named to the McAuliffe Honor Society and was a member of the Law Review. He is a frequent lecturer on trial practice and courtroom advocacy.

He is a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates and numerous other professional organizations. He is also a member of SGI International, an organization dedicated to world peace through art, education, and culture. Greg has been married to Marilyn Anne for 34 years and has three adult children.

Doug Klein

Prior to his assignment as CEO for Vernier, Doug was the vice president of operations for Packet Design. Before Packet Design Doug served as president and chief operating officer for NuvoMedia, Inc., the developer of the Rocket eBook handheld electronic reading device, which was acquired by Gemstar-TV Guide International in January 2000. As a founder of Network Computing Devices, he had direct management responsibilities for all NCD engineering, program management and service and support.

Doug earned his Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the California Institute of Technology and his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Cincinnati.

Dave Baldwin
Director of Business Development, Hollywood Entertainment
Dave and his team are responsible for developing programs and product lines that drive incremental traffic and revenue into the Hollywood Video chain of stores. Hollywood Video is the nation’s second largest video rental chain with 2004 revenues over $2 Billion.

His activity runs the gamut, from the development and execution of a multi-tiered Gift Card program with revenues exceeding $50 Million, to national promotions and a variety of loyalty initiatives. Previous to Hollywood, Dave’s professional experience included a variety of business development and marketing roles at Verio NTT, the Oregon Multimedia Alliance and Ameritech. He is a graduate of Michigan State University.

Scott Davidson
Partner, White & Lee LLP
Scott is the leader of White & Lee’s Technology Practice Group. Scott has extensive experience in corporate law, mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance, complex technology transfers and intellectual property matters, and services a broad base of clients from public companies to emerging growth and start-up enterprises. Scott regularly advises clients on key strategic issues including business alliances, venture financings and revenue generation. He also serves as counsel for a number of clients in the sports, music and entertainment industries.

Scott’s representative clients include Chrome Systems Corporation, Hollywood Entertainment, Louisiana-Pacific Corporation, Oregon Central Corporation (a partner in Pumpkin Ridge Partners), The Resort at Salmon Run, Tour Golf Group, Inc., and Vernier Networks, Inc.

In addition to his practice, Scott serves on the boards of several non-profit organizations that focus on improving the lives of the disabled and disadvantaged in Oregon and Southwest Washington. Scott received his law degree and MBA from Willamette University.

Clive Cook
CEO, ControlPlane Communications Corporation
Mr. Cook is the former CEO of Elematics, Inc. and the former COO of Patagon, Inc. During the past 15 years Mr. Cook has been working on partnering relationships in China, Korea, across South America and Mexico as well in Europe from his North American base. Mr. Cook began his career as an engineer at Nortel where he was involved in the development of the industry's first SONET transport equipment. He was later a product manager for the leading telecommunications equipment-testing manufacturer TTC (now Acterna), where he led TTC's first efforts in network management. Working for Mercer Management Consulting, Mr. Cook contributed to a broad array of engagements in a number of industries including telecommunications, energy, biotechnology, and information technology. Mr. Cook has written on doing business in Latin America and technology opportunities in the telecommunications as well as financial services industries. Mr. Cook lives with his wife and twin children in Portland.

Steve Mushero
Steve Mushero is an Inter-Disciplinary Technologist working in software, biotech, nanotech, and manufacturing. He is also just completing a new book on globalization and the off-shoring of white-collar jobs. Steve has spent over fifteen years building sophisticated systems and companies of all kinds, typically as CIO or CTO. Clients range from Silicon Valley startups to global companies and organizations. Steve draws on an unusually broad and deep background in business and technology to forge links among and between various technology and business needs.

Steve also works with a number of philanthropic organizations, with a focus on women’s entrepreneurship and girls’ education, in addition to sustainable entrepreneurship in challenged local communities and developing countries. Steve has a number of patents in automated data exchange and holds a BS in Electrical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and an MBA also from RPI and the International University of Japan.

Wayne Embree
Cascadia Partners
Wayne Embree is a co-founder of Cascadia Partners, a private venture capital company currently investing its fourth fund. Since 1986 he has worked closely with entrepreneurs and research institutions developing and investing in promising startups, having had a principal role in creating nearly 20 spinout companies from research universities and corporations. His prior experience includes developing economic programs and conducting policy analysis for the Oregon Legislative Assembly and former Arizona Governor Bruce Babbitt. He also served as a tactical operations officer in the US Air Force from 1975-1980 directing real-time command, control and communications systems. Consistently given responsibilities reserved for higher ranks, Embree was awarded two Air Force Commendation Medals for exceptional performance. Embree holds a BS in Natural Sciences from Western Oregon University and a Masters of Urban & Regional Planning from the University of Oregon. He was a founding board member of the Oregon Bioscience Association, the Oregon Young Entrepreneurs Association and the Northwest Capital Network. He is a frequent speaker on technology commercialization and venture creation. Embree is an active private pilot, flying classic and antique aircraft.

Tim Breaux
President, Intercase Technology
Tim Breaux has over 20 years of experience in healthcare technology. Tim joined Andersen Consulting (then Arthur Andersen) in 1985, and spent 15 years in planning, design and installation of information systems, mostly in healthcare environments. He then worked in two venture funded start-ups, one as CTO and one as CEO. He has launched two start-ups of his own.

Tim has broad exposure to hospital information systems, health plan claims processing systems and electronic medical records systems. He has extensive experience in telecommunications, web technologies and traditional architectures.

Tim received his Doctor of Pharmacy in 1978 from the University of the Pacific in Stockton, California, and completed a Masters in Business Administration in 1986 from Portland State University in Portland, Oregon.

Mike Hoffman
Technology/Innovation Lead, Bonneville Power Administration
Since 2001 Mike Hoffman has been the Technology Innovation Lead at BPA, responsible for development & implementation of the EnergyWeb concept, Non Wires Sounding board technical support, Ashland & Richland direct load control project lead, BPA representative on CEIDS Distributed Energy Resource modeling work group, contracting with PNW firms for energy efficiency and electrical maintenance work for the US Dept. of State at embassies & consulates around the world, BPA lead on 200 Market micro turbine (CHP) project and board member Electricity Storage Association.

Prior to that, Mike was responsible for international marketing at BPA and was a team leader for joint BPA and Putnam Hayes Bartlett project to evaluate new business opportunities for utilities being privatized by the State of Sao Paulo in Brazil in 1997-1998. He initiated BPA headquarters Smart Metering demonstration project and was responsible for the business plan for BPA’s fuel cell project. Mike obtained a BSEE from the University of Portland.
